Just take an aluminum plate or you can also use a plate covered with aluminum foil. Then add about 1 tablespoon of table salt and 1 tablespoon or so of the powdered water softener, any water softener will do. Then add some extremely hot (though not boiling) water to the pie plate and stir to dissolve the salt and softener. In fact, you can even substitute baking soda for the water softener.
